Nel 1962, su incarico della Cia, l'agente francese André Devereaux vola a Cuba per raccogliere informazioni sulla notizia che riguarda l'installazione di missili sovietici nell'isola. Juanita, vedova anticastrista di un eroe della Rivoluzione che gli fornisce notizie decisive, viene scoperta e uccisa, ma la missione di Devereux è comunque compiuta. Ora, nel suo Paese, lo attende un altro incarico: infiltrarsi e smantellare un'organizzazione spionistica al servizio di Mosca, denominata Topaz, di cui fanno parte insospettabili funzionari francesi.
