Al largo di una località della Florida due sub vengono uccisi dai barracuda. Mike Canfield è un biologo marino che vuole investigare sulle attività di un’industria chimica di un boss della città, Papa Jack (Bert Freed), ma viene sbattuto in galera senza tanti complimenti. Lo sceriffo Ben Williams lo prende però in simpatia e chiede il suo aiuto quando, una volta uscito di galera, altre vittime vengono trovate. Presi dei campioni d’acqua, i due scoprono che qualcosa di terribile è in atto e il dottor Snow, medico locale, ha una parte in tutto questo.
