Kirk Kettner è un ragazzo esile e impacciato, impiegato come agente della sicurezza in aeroporto. Esperto nel gestire l’ordine sul lavoro è un vero disastro nella vita privata, dove è piantato da una fidanzata petulante. Convinto di essere destinato a una vita senza amore, è folgorato al checkpoint da Molly, bella, bionda e decisa a dire sì proprio a lui. Salvata dalle attenzioni moleste del suo capo, Molly resta folgorata dalla gentilezza di Kirk e decide di dargli un appuntamento. Una partita di hockey e una cena romantica dopo, i due ragazzi si innamorano tra lo stupore di amici e familiari, che credono improbabile l’unione di bellezza e ordinarietà. Tra alti e bassi, tra voli da prendere e voli da perdere, Kirk e Molly vinceranno perplessità e scetticismi, facendo strike degli ostacoli.
