Qui Bette Davis sostiene il doppio ruolo di due sorelle gemelle innamorate dello stesso uomo, Bill Emerson, il quale decide di sposare Patricia, meno sensibile ma più affascinante della sorella Kate. Bill si assenta per lungo tempo a causa del suo lavoro che lo porta lontano e le due sorelle riprendono a frequentarsi. Ma un giorno, mentre fanno una gita in barca, Patricia annega durante un improvviso temporale. Kate, ancora innamorata di Bill, fa credere di essere Patricia. Confesserà il suo gioco solo dopo aver scoperto che Bill non amava più la moglie. Questo film fu prodotto dalla stessa Bette Davis qui in una (anzi in due) delle sue più belle interpretazioni.
