Quando il suo primo spettacolo teatrale fallisce, il cantautore Cole Porter parte per combattere nella prima guerra mondiale finché, ferito, finisce in ospedale. Impressiona l'infermiera Linda Lee con la sua creatività, ma la loro storia d'amore sbocciante deve aspettare perché Cole torna a casa.
