Nella bella residenza estiva della famiglia Larrabee, vivono anche vari domestici, fra cui l'autista Thomas Fairchild e sua figlia Sabrina. Sabrina è da sempre innamorata del più giovane rampollo dei Larrabee, David, un donnaiolo impenitente con già tre matrimoni falliti alle spalle. Una volta arrivata a Parigi, Sabrina impara l'arte della cucina e quella di credere nei propri sogni, così che quando rientra a Long Island due anni dopo con un nuovo taglio di capelli e i più sofisticati vestiti della moda francese, David la nota e comincia finalmente a farle la corte. Il suo comportamento non viene però visto di buon occhio dalla famiglia e in particolare da Linus, che ha già combinato per lui un matrimonio con una facoltosa ereditiera e che, affinché tutto vada come programmato, decide di mettersi fra lui e Sabrina.
