In un tema in classe il giovane Danny tratta argomenti ispirati al 'Mein Kampf' e il preside Sweeney, per punirlo, lo obbliga a preparare una relazione sul fratello maggiore Derek. Quest'ultimo, ex leader di un gruppo giovanile paranazista che si riconosceva in Cameron, ideologo della violenza razzista contro ogni forma di diversità, è appena uscito dal carcere dopo aver scontato alcuni anni per l'uccisione di due ragazzi neri che gli stavano rubando l'automobile. Danny aspetta da tempo questo momento. Ha immaginato molte volte la scarcerazione di Derek e non desidera altro che mettersi ai 'suoi ordini'. Non sa che in carcere Derek ha riflettuto molto maturando la convinzione di voler cambiare vita. Danny si sente spaesato, soprattutto quando, durante una festa vede Derek avere uno scontro violento con Cameron, ma poi riesce a capire le ragioni di suo fratello. L'odio, però, a volte genera una serie di violenze difficili da fermare.
