Il detective Welles, uomo integro la cui unica trasgressione consiste nel fumo clandestino di qualche normale sigaretta, riceve un incarico particolare. Deve scoprire se il film trovato nella cassaforte di un riccone deceduto da poco sia o meno uno snuff movie, cioè un film in cui le sevizie e gli omicidi non sono simulati ma veri. Da qui parte un'indagine che lo porterà a visitare un inferno reale difficilmente immaginabile.
