Dopo gli eventi di X-Men - Conflitto finale Logan si è ritirato sui monti, ossessionato nei sogni dallo spettro di Jean Grey. A stanarlo è una mutante giapponese, inviata per trovarlo e portarlo a Tokyo dove un morente magnate della tecnologia vuole vederlo prima di esalare l'ultimo respiro. Si tratta di un militare giapponese che quando Logan lo salvò dall'atomica di Nagasaki ne scoprì il potere rigenerante e che ora intende fargli una proposta: l'immortalità in cambio di una vita normale.
