Jenna Rink è una ragazzina insoddisfatta della propria vita. Infatti è sfruttata dalle ragazze del "sestetto", di cui vorrebbe fare parte, e ha una cotta non corrisposta per Chris Grandy, il ragazzo più carino della scuola. Alla festa per i suoi 13 anni, delusa, si chiude nello sgabuzzino e desidera di avere 30 anni. Grazie alla polvere magica che il suo migliore amico Matt, segretamente innamorato di lei, ha sparso sulla casa delle bambole che le ha regalato, Jenna si ritrova improvvisamente all'età di 30 anni.Allo sconvolgimento seguito al fatto di ritrovarsi nel corpo di una trentenne, in un mondo profondamente cambiato, farà seguito la consapevolezza di aver realizzato tutti i suoi sogni di ragazzina. Ma con gli occhi e la testa da tredicenne Jenna si accorgerà di aver raggiunto tutti quegli obiettivi lasciando dietro di sé troppe cose, in quei 17 anni che è come se non avesse vissuto. Così cerca di recuperare il rapporto con i genitori e soprattutto con Matt.
