L'eroica resistenza di un piccolo paesino norvegese contro le truppe tedesche durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Il comandante dei tedeschi arriva a prendere alcuni ostaggi tra la popolazione civile e ne ordina la fucilazione: a quel punto scoppia la rivolta. Film di propaganda tormentato da una miriade di problemi: Errol Flynn aveva in corso un processo per stupro e Ann Sheridan era reduce da un divorzio. Tutto questo non impedì a Milestone di svolgere il suo lavoro con la consueta abilità.
