In un borgo fortificato del Medio Evo francese, un vescovo dall'animo malvagio e corrotto - invaghitosi di Isabeau, fidanzata del capo delle guardie Etienne Navarre - colpisce la giovane coppia con la sua maledizione. Così da quel momento Etienne è condannato a trasformarsi ogni notte in lupo, mentre di giorno Isabeau si trasformerà in un falco. I due potranno quindi incontrarsi brevemente in forma umana solo all'alba e al tramonto, ma senza toccarsi mai. Per spezzare l'incantesimo servirà un'eclissi di sole.
