C'è una teoria secondo cui dovremmo nascere con una quota di alcol nel sangue. Tale modesta percentuale aprirebbe la nostra mente al mondo che ci circonda, diminuendo i problemi e aumentando la creatività. Incoraggiati da tale presupposto, Martin e tre suoi amici, tutti annoiati insegnanti di scuola superiore, intraprendono un esperimento teso a mantenere un livello costante di alcol nel sangue durante l'arco della giornata lavorativa. I risultati in un primo momento sono positivi e il piccolo progetto si trasforma in breve in vero studio accademico. Tuttavia, non passerà molto tempo prima che porti a conseguenze inaspettate.
