Odessa, 1905: a bordo della Potëmkin, un'unità da guerra della flotta zarista, le condizioni dell'equipaggio sono intollerabili. Iniziano così a serpeggiare fermenti di rivolta: davanti all'ennesimo sopruso, la situazione esplode, scatenando un sanguinoso ammutinamento.
