Marisa Ventura è una ragazza madre del Bronx che lavora come cameriera in un albergo a 5 stelle di Manhattan, il Beresford Hotel. Marisa aspira a una condizione migliore, ma la vita le ha insegnato a contare solo su sé stessa e a restare con i piedi piantati per terra. Un giorno al Beresford capita Christopher Hall, l'affascinante rampollo di una dinastia di politici, che adesso corre per il Senato. Per un divertente equivoco, conosce Marisa erroneamente ritenuta una facoltosa cliente dell'albergo. I due si innamorano e la giovane assapora per un attimo il gusto della celebrità prima che le cose tornino al loro giusto posto...
