New Orleans, età del jazz. Tiana lavora sodo e senza sosta per accumulare il denaro che servirà a realizzare il sogno che lei e il padre formularono quando era bambina: un ristorante, con ottimo cibo e ottima musica. Intanto il principe Naveen sbarca in Lousiana e le ragazze della città impazziscono per vederlo, ma lui si lascia presto abbindolare dal malvagio Facilier, dedito alle arti oscure, e finisce trasformato in un ranocchio. Scambiando la bella Tiana per una principessa, nel corso di una festa da ballo, implora da lei il bacio che, secondo le favole, lo farà tornare umano ma accade l'imprevisto ed è Tiana a trasformarsi a sua volta in una graziosissima, viscida ranocchia. Per poter donare la felicità agli altri, attraverso il piacere del cibo, Tiana dovrà prima conoscere la felicità per sé, attraverso l'amore, e capire che un sogno non è pienamente bello se non è condiviso Ad un certo punto il principe dovrà cioè prendere il posto di suo padre, così vuole la fiaba e la vita.
