Una goccia di sole cadde tanto tempo fa dal cielo. Da questa goccia nacque un fiore, che attraverso un canto poteva ringiovanire o curare le persone. Custodito gelosamente per anni dall'egoista Madre Gothel, il fiore verrà poi trovato dai sudditi del Re, che ne ha bisogno per guarire la moglie incinta malata. La Regina guarisce e nasce una bellissima bambina dai capelli d'oro. Madre Gothel, però, una notte decide di rapire la bambina, dopo aver scoperto che i suoi capelli hanno lo stesso potere del fiore, ma verifica anche che al minimo taglio i capelli perdono quel potere. Per diciotto anni Rapunzel, così si chiama la principessa, rimane rinchiusa in una torre da Madre Gothel, che però si mostra come un'adorabile mamma alla ragazza. Un furfante di nome Flynn Rider decide di nascondersi nella torre.
