Claire Bartel, madre di Emma (5 anni), subisce molestie da parte del dottor Mott, un ginecologo. Claire denuncia il dottore e così fanno altre donne. Questi si suicida e la sua vedova, Peyton, perde il bambino di cui era incinta. Alcuni mesi dopo Claire mette al mondo Joe.
