Nel 1944, un misterioso rituale magico chiamato "Ragnarok", condotto da uno stregone e da un gruppo di nazisti, da alla luce un bambino dalle sembianze demoniache. La vita di questa piccola creatura non umana viene salvata dal Dottor Broom, il quale diverrà suo mentore e grande amico e, una volta cresciuto, lo recluterà al Broom's Bureau, un istituto di ricerca per la difesa del paranormale.
