Un gigantesco squalo attacca e divora un sub che lavora sott’acqua. Sei mesi dopo a Colima, in Messico, Ben Carpenter (John Barrowman), immergendosi a caccia di aragoste, trova uno strano dente di pescecane conficcato in un cavo di fibra ottica: lo fotografa e lo mette su Internet. La dottoressa Cataline Stone del museo di storia naturale di San Diego (Jenny McShane) vede la foto del dente e raggiunge Ben a Colima. Parte poi alla ricerca della bestia – un Megalodon, ritenuto estinto – e la trova, recuperando anche un altro dente quando lo squalone addenta la barca. Ma il gigantesco predatore è ormai decisamente seccato e comincia ad attaccare di brutto fin sulla spiaggia.
