Alla fine degli anni'80, Harry e Lloyd si incontrano nelle aule del liceo di città. Harry, fino a quel giorno, ha studiato privatamente a casa con la madre, Lloyd, invece, vive nel seminterrato della scuola con il padre, che lavora come custode. Entrambi non sono propriamente dei geni: ma la loro presenza fa molto comodo al disonesto preside del liceo, che vuole intascarsi un grosso finanziamento destinato alla creazione di classi differenziali. Ma la demenza dei due sarà superiore persino ai suoi macchiavellismi... La moda del "prequel" - ultima frontiera di una Hollywood sempre più a corto di idee - contagia anche il comico. Con risultati purtroppo disastrosi. Che già l'originale "Scemo e più scemo" non fosse proprio una pietra miliare non è oggetto di contestazione: ma qua e là capitava di ridere.
