Rent, il rivoluzionario musical del premio Pulitzer Jonathan Larson, narra le vicende di un gruppo di bohémien che lottano per esprimersi attraverso la loro arte e fondano le loro vite sull’amore. Sullo sfondo realistico dell’East Village newyorkese, questi amici cercano il successo e l’accettazione sopportando la povertà, la malattia e il dilagare dell’AIDS. Otto amici, otto voci, otto storie intersecate tra di loro. Un gruppo di ragazzi che inizia la propria avventura il giorno della vigilia di Natale: si prendono per mano, vivendo sogni, canzoni, delusioni, sfide e problemi, nel corso di un intero anno, fino al Natale successivo. Una storia in cui l'amore va al di là delle barriere sessuali, dove il dramma si mischia alla musica, all'eroina, alla pulsione tragica del vivere, lanciando nonostante tutto un messaggio di amore e di speranza per trasmettere che non esiste il momento giusto, ma esiste solo questo momento.
