La volpe Red e il cane Toby sono due cuccioli adottati rispettivamente dalla Signora Tweed e dal cacciatore Slade. I due animali fanno amicizia nonostante il destino li vuole futuri preda e predatore. Quando, per salvaguardare la sua incolumità, la Signora Tweed rimanderà Red nei boschi, l'amico Toby non esiterà a raggiungerla ed aiutarla nel corso di uno scontro con un orso.
