Un irreprensibile gentleman inglese, Mr. Fogg, scommette con alcuni amici del suo club che riuscirà a compiere il giro del mondo in ottanta giorni. La posta in palio ammonta a 30.000 sterline. Accompagnato dal suo giovane cameriere Passepartout l'uomo inizia immediatamente l'avventuroso viaggio. Arrivato dopo varie peripezie in India, sottrae al rogo una giovane principessa locale, che doveva essere sacrificata alla dea Kalì. Ben presto si aggiunge alla comitiva un detective inglese che crede di aver ravvisato in Mr Fogg l'autore di un audace furto alla Banca d'Inghilterra
