Caden, il protagonista, è un regista teatrale. Va dal dentista e scopre che c'è qualcosa di sbagliato in lui, ma qualcosa di natura sconosciuta. Il film affronta temi come la natura della famiglia, della casa e delle relazioni fra uomo e donna. Il film comincia ad offuscare la natura del reale e della rappresentazione, coerentemente con le prime opere di Kaufman.
