Max Skinner è uno dei più bravi broker finanziari londinesi. Appena appresa la morte di un suo zio che non vede e non sente da anni, deve trasferirsi in Provenza per risolvere questioni legate all'eredità, in quanto risulta l'unico erede. Una volta arrivato in Francia, i ricordi delle vacanze trascorse in gioventù si rifanno vivi, così cone le persone conosciute in quei periodi.
