Roddy, un nobiltopo che abita in una lussuosa dimora londinese, vive gli agi e i lussi di un'esistenza tranquilla fino all'arrivo di Sid, un topo di fogna che salta improvvisamente fuori dal lavandino della cucina. Il piano per liberarsi dell'intruso, subito messo in pratica, si rivela però inefficiente, tanto che lo stesso Roddy finisce giù per lo scarico del water e si ritrova nelle fognature sottostanti. È proprio nell'underground londinese che lo spaurito e maldestro roditore scopre un mondo parallelo abitato da creature strane e misteriose, ma il suo desiderio è uno solo: tornare a casa!
