Annie, vivacissima orfanella, vive in un orfanotrofio con altre sue amichette agli ordini della signorina direttrice, beona e spasimante per gli uomini nonostante la non più verde età. Le bambine cantano e ballano con gaiezza indiavolata e fanno impazzire la responsabile della loro custodia. Un bel giorno capita nell'istituto la signorina Grace, segretaria del signor Warbucks, magnate dell'industria americana, per invitare a palazzo un'orfanella come ospite per una settimana.
