Pochi giorni dopo l'attacco a Pearl Harbor, sulle coste della California infuria la psicosi dell'invasione. È il 13 dicembre 1941. Al largo c'è un sommergibile giapponese. In cielo sfreccia un aviatore pazzo. Il 1° fiasco nella carriera di S. Spielberg. Fantastoria col piede sull'acceleratore, ma spesso il motore s'imballa. Qua e là geniale, sempre eccessivo. Molte risate e il merito è della squadra degli effetti speciali. Scritto da Bob Gale e Robert Zemeckis, i futuri autori di Ritorno al futuro (1985), doveva essere diretto da John Milius. Su Laserdisc ne esiste una versione più lunga di 26 minuti. Il portaordini in motocicletta è il regista John Landis, in una rara apparizione senza barba.
