Un aspirante scrittore, per cercare ispirazione, comincia a pedinare le persone, trasformando le loro vite in materiale per lavoro. Tutto va liscio finché egli non incontra Cobb, ladro di professione che, piano piano, gli insegna il mestiere. La trama si complica quando lo scrittore si invaghisce della vittima di un furto e inizia a frequentarla.
