Sophie Hall è un'aspirante scrittrice per rotocalchi che, insieme al suo ragazzo Victor, vola da New York in Italia per godersi un po' di tanto desiderato romanticismo. Mentre Victor non c'è a causa di alcuni affari, Sophie si ritrova a Verona nel famoso cortile di Giulietta Capuleti dove trova una lettera scritta 50 anni prima al personaggio shakespeariano da Claire Smith, alla ricerca di un giovane italiano che le faceva la corte. Sophie decide di rispondere al messaggio lasciato da Claire, rimasto inspiegabilmente inevaso, e rimane molto sorpresa quando la sua lettera ispira questa, adesso nonna, a partire con lei per Verona in cerca del suo antico amore perduto. Accompagnate da Charlie, il nipote di Claire, il trio cerca l'uomo per tutta la Toscana e prende atto che il coraggio che serve loro per avere a che fare con l'amore non è poco...
