Rimasta sola, la giovane Tristana si trasferisce dal tutore don Lope che le riserva un'attrazione sempre più morbosa. Dopo averlo lasciato per un giovane pittore, torna da lui: amputata di una gamba, Tristana sopporta sempre meno l'attenzione di don Lope e quando, una sera, lui sta male, lei finge di chiamare il medico e poi apre la finestra al vento glaciale dell'inverno.
