Jean Gilkyson (Jennifer Lopez), in fuga dal fidanzato violento, assieme alla figlia cerca accoglienza da Einar Gilkyson (Robert Redford), nonno della figlia. Tra i due non corre buon sangue, infatti Einar ritiene Jean responsabile della morte del figlio.
