Agli inizi degli anni Cinquanta, alcuni produttori decidono di invitare come ospite d'onore in uno show televisivo un vecchio divo del cinema, che gli anni e l'oblio hanno reso amico della bottiglia. Oltre che ubriacone il divo è anche piuttosto stravagante, tanto che si rende necessario affiancargli un giovane sceneggiatore che, con il pretesto di fargli da cicerone, faccia invece in modo di "limitare i danni". Inutile dire che il divo combinerà comunque un sacco di guai...
