Il pubblicista Will Randall si vede soffiare sotto il naso il suo lavoro e sua moglie da un collega più giovane. Una sera, guidando su un'autostrada del New England, vede un lupo disteso sulla carreggiata, si ferma e scende per vedere cosa sia successo, ma il lupo lo morde e poi scappa via. I giorni successivi Will ritrova tutta l'energia perduta, si sente più competitivo che mai ed i sensi gli sono acuiti in modo sorprendente. Nel frattempo, la splendida figlia del suo capo s'innamora di lui, senza rendersi conto che Will si sta trasformando giorno dopo giorno in una creatura mostruosa...
