Buddy è un bambino curioso che vive in un orfanotrofio. La notte di Natale si infila nel sacco di Babbo Natale, che però se ne accorge solo una volta tornato al Polo Nord. Qui il barbuto Santa Claus diviene una specie di padre adottivo del bambino, che cresce assieme agli altri elfi. O meglio, lui cresce, mentre gli altri restano... elfi. Divenuto chiaro che Buddy non può vivere nel mondo degli elfi, viene rimandato dove è nato, alla ricerca dei suoi veri genitori. Ben presto però si accorgerà che la grande città non è fatta solo di pattinaggio sul ghiaccio e zucchero filato.
