Ispirato alla vera storia di Herb Brooks, allenatore della squadra di hockey su ghiaccio della nazionale degli Stati Uniti negli anni Ottanta che, alla vigilia dei Giochi Olimpici di Lake Placid, provinò migliaia di liceali alla ricerca dei componenti ideali ed eccellenti del team a stelle e strisce. Ma, oltre che battere la squadra campione russa, dovrà vedersela anche con i litigi e gli screzi fra compagni di squadra, la difficoltà di amalgamare ragazzi con un differente background alle spalle, le difficoltà di tattiche e di gioco e le pressioni esercitate dall’esterno. Da parte del coach esiste solo una certezza: la fede nei miracoli.
