Intenzionato a raggiungere l'amica Venna per la quale prova un'inconfessata attrazione, il giovane Lewis Thomas intraprende un viaggio in auto in compagnia di Fuller, lo scapestrato fratello appena uscito di prigione. Sarà proprio quest'ultimo, un po' per noia e un po' per divertimento, ad allacciare conversazioni via radio con sconosciuti, fino a convincere il riluttante Lewis a gabbare un camionista in contatto con loro, emulando una seducente voce femminile. Il misterioso personaggio abbocca e i due fratelli lo inducono a presentarsi ad un beffardo appuntamento al buio in una camera di motel, ignorando che l'uomo senza volto è uno psicopatico e che il "viaggio di piacere" si trasformerà ben presto in incubo.
