A Jersey City, appena dopo il ponte, il diciannovenne Shane è riuscito a entrare nel mitico Studio 54 creato dall'imprenditore Steve Rubell verso al fine degli anni Settanta. All'interno della discoteca il ragazzo trova un lavoro e nuove amicizie: Greg, un inserviente che sogna di fare soldi come barman, sua moglie Anita, una guardarobiera che aspira a sfondare nella discomusic e Julie, una diva delle soap opera che incarna la ragazza dei suoi sogni.
