Siamo a metà degli anni Cinquanta. Einstein lavora e svolge i suoi studi a Princeton. La sua intelligentissima nipote Catherine è fidanzata con uno psicologo libertino. Prevedendo un futuro sentimentalmente insoddisfacente per Catherine, Einstein s'incarica personalmente di trovarle un nuovo fidanzato. E nonostante Catherine sia decisa a sposare un genio come suo zio Albert, è il meccanico Ed a colpire Einstein, che lo reputa un ottimo Principe Azzurro per la nipote.
