Melanie Daniels incontra Mitch Brenner in un negozio di animali di San Francisco. Lui vorrebbe comprare una coppia di inseparabili per regalarli a sua sorella per il suo compleanno, lei finge di essere una commessa del negozio, lui non le crede, ma sta al gioco.
