Ritornare dal mondo delle fiabe è stata per Dorothy un'esperienza traumatica, che l'ha portata sull'orlo della follia. Disperati, gli zii l'affidano alle cure di uno psichiatra che, senza tanti complimenti, inizia una drastica cura a base di elettrochoc. Aiutata da una compagna di sventura, Dorothy riesce a scappare e si ritrova nel mondo di Oz, pietrificato dalla crudele principessa Mombi. Soltanto salvando i suoi vecchi amici, l'Uomo di Latta, il Leone Codardo e lo Spaventapasseri, e riportando la felicità in quel regno incantato, la bambina potrà ritornare finalmente a casa, definitivamente guarita dalle sue fantasie e diventata suo malgrado adulta.
