Nicholas Van Horton è un uomo d'affari che riscuote molto successo e che è abituato a tenere sotto controllo ogni aspetto dei suoi investimenti. La sua vita, fin troppo ordinata, cambia improvvisamente corso nel momento in cui suo fratello Conrad, in occasione del suo compleanno, gli organizza una sorpresa, un vero e proprio gioco di ruolo. Appena entrato nel gioco Nicholas si rende conto che i rischi sono altissimi e scopre di essere tenuto sotto controllo, perfino dentro casa, da cospiratori sconosciuti che lo vogliono annientare.
