Il giovane Edmond Dantès viene accusato di alto tradimento e rinchiuso nel carcere di massima sicurezza dell'isola di Château d'If. È innocente: contro di lui prove costruite dal suo migliore amico Fernand, innamorato di Mercedes, fidanzata di Dantès, e quindi spinto dalla gelosia alla turpe macchinazione. Ma Dantès riesce a scappare, si trasforma nel conte di Montecristo e mette in atto il suo implacabile piano di vendetta... Basato sul romanzo di Alexandre Dumas.
