Nel misterioso Perù, una famiglia di orsi coltiva da decenni il mito dell'Inghilterra, paese ospitale e di ottimi gusti, come testimoniato dalla visita dell'esploratore Montgomery e dalla sua marmellata di arance. Così, quando giunge l'ora, il piccolo orso s'imbarca, con un cappello in testa e un cartellino che chiede gentilmente che ci si prenda cura di lui. Lo trovano alla piovosa stazione londinese di Paddington, tutto solo sotto l'insegna degli oggetti smarriti, i signori Brown e i loro figli Jonathan e Judy.
