Paul Javal, uno scrittore di gialli, viene chiamato da un produttore americano, Prokosch, per sceneggiare un film sull’Odissea che dovrebbe essere diretto da Fritz Lang. Il produttore corteggia apertamente Camille, la giovane moglie dello scrittore. Questo provoca la rottura definitiva fra i due sposi. Camille, nel tornare a Roma in compagnia del produttore, però, muore miseramente in un incidente a bordo dell’auto del produttore.
