La signora del West

La serie è ambientata nell'anno 1867 e si focalizza su una donna medico di Boston, Massachusetts, Michaela Quinn, semplicemente Dr. Mike . Dopo la morte del padre, Joseph Quinn, anche lui medico, si trasferisce in un piccolo paese di frontiera del west, Colorado Springs, per creare il proprio ambulatorio. Oltre al pregiudizio circa lo svolgimento del lavoro di medico da parte di una donna, Michaela deve inizialmente affrontare i problemi della vita nel Colorado con l'aiuto di amici indiani Cheyenne, e un'amica, Charlotte Cooper. Sul letto di morte per un morso di serpente a sonagli, Charlotte Cooper chiede a Michaela di prendersi cura dei suoi tre figli: Matthew, Coleen e Brian. In questa occasione avviene il primo incontro tra Michaela e Sully, il quale le offre la casetta in cui viveva con la prima moglie Abigail, morta durante il parto della figlia dei due, Hanna, anch'essa morta con la madre. Abigail era figlia del proprietario dell'emporio cittadino, Loren Bray.
