Dopo il mondo e la vita, il sesto giorno Dio crea Adamo ed Eva dalla polvere e dal fango e li colloca nel giardino dell'Eden. Essi cedono però alla tentazione del Maligno e vengono cacciati. Il primogenito della coppia primordiale, Caino, uccide per gelosia il fratello Abele, poi Dio manda il diluvio per punire l'umanità scellerata, ma fa in modo che Noè salvi sull'arca la famiglia e le specie animali. Rifluite le acque del diluvio la Terra si ripopola, ma con la torre di Babele è commesso un atto di superbia che Dio punisce confondendo le lingue e rendendo gli uomini estranei gli uni agli altri. Passa il tempo, e Abramo è prescelto quale capostipite del popolo eletto. Prima di confermargli tutte le sue promesse, Dio lo mette più volte alla prova, fino a comandargli il sacrificio del figlio Isacco.
