Due sfigati fratelli ereditano dal padre, con una fabbrichetta, una vecchia casa piuttosto fatiscente, abitata da un roditore furbissimo che sfida ogni tentativo, gattesco e no, di eliminarlo. Cocktail di farsa e di umorismo nero, la commedia, scritta da Adam Rifkin, ha diverse invenzioni di taglio gotico, una tensione narrativa insolita, una partenza lanciata, ma nella 2ª parte si affloscia nella ripetizione. È il caso raro di un film zoocentrico senza bamboleggiamenti che può essere visto con piacere anche dagli adulti. Topi veri addestrati si alternano e si mescolano con gli animatronic degli Stan Winston Studios e con la computer animation. Prodotto per la Dreamworks. La coppia di N. Lane (americano e noto in TV) e L. Evans (inglese dalla mimica sopra le righe) richiama Laurel & Hardy che, però, nei loro anni d'oro si limitavano ai 2 rulli (20 minuti circa).
