Annie ha quarant'anni, un ex fidanzato, un'ex professione e una sola certezza: la sua amica Lillian. Inseparabili, Annie e Lillian hanno condiviso ogni giorno della loro vita e coltivato lo stesso sogno, sposarsi e realizzarsi nel matrimonio. Mentre Annie perde tempo e dignità nel letto di uno sciupafemmine ossessionato dal sesso orale, Lillian riceve un anello e una proposta di matrimonio. Oltremodo felice chiede a Annie di essere la sua damigella d'onore e di accompagnarla verso l'altare e dentro l'avventura più bella della vita. Annie accetta con entusiasmo di organizzare il matrimonio dell'amica ma dovrà fare i conti con Helen, ricca e viziata signora che aspira al suo posto nel cuore di Lillian, e le sue tre strampalate amiche. Al verde, depressa e ostacolata da Helen, Annie proverà a 'resistere' con l'aiuto di un agente di polizia, innamorato e determinato ad accenderle cuore e fanalino di coda.
